NONET Chat

Nightops.net operates an IRC chat service for NONET members and anyone else interested in the secrets of the night.

How To Join

You can join the chat using our hosted web client at https://nightops.net/chat.php. Or, if you prefer to use your own irc client, connect to this server:

nightops.net:6697
/join #the_lounge

Note: SSL must be enabled; the chat server does not accept unencrypted connections. The SSL certificate is valid, do not connect if your irc client cannot validate the certificate.

How To Register a Username

NONET chat supports username (nick) registration. If you want to register your nick, send a command like this in your irc client. Put in your desired password and registration email address. If you lose control of your account, you will be able to recover it through the email address used for registration.

/msg NickServ REGISTER <your password> <your email address>

Registered user names expire after 30 days of inactivity. If you are a NONET forum member and want to keep your username active for longer than that, ask an admin.

When you want to log in, set your nick to match your registered nick and identify yourself to NickServ:

/msg NickServ IDENTIFY <your password>

Most standalone irc clients can be set up to automatically log you in when you connect.

Privacy and Security

IRC is a secure, ephemeral, text-only chat protocol that allows for a high level of privacy. When you send a message, the content of that message is visible only to the people in the room at the time. Your messages are not logged to disk. Your chat session is strongly encrypted between your computer and nightops.net.

This being said, watch your PERSEC while using this or any other chat service.
