New Domain Name

Post by Legend » Tue Jul 07, 2009 4:05 pm

I think that changing the domain name would greatly increase the number of users and further night ops. You've probably considered this before and I don't know the exact costs involved but I imagine there is something available that's closely related to night ops. Nightops.org seems to be available from a quick domain search.

It's a shame that www.weownthenight.com is taken, maybe something not so generic. Need something that pops, like www.nightlurkers.com, www.welurkatnight.com, www.welurkthenight.com, www.thefreakscomeoutatnight, or www.moonlurker.com.

Just some quick suggestions. I could go on, but you get the idea.

It has to have night ops and .net in the domain name for me. It reminds me of the the old domain and when I first stumbled across this site, also we are usually referred to as night ops net or nonet or something along those lines so it makes sense.

How about something to do with the shadows? Instead of moonlurkers - Sounds like something to do with aliens.
Just a thought

This forum is known as NONET for a reason - the original domain name was nightops.net. If I had a grand to spare, I would have bought it back from the squatters. I don't have a grand though, and neither do all of you (nor would it be fair for me to ask that of you). So, we get night-ops.net. It's a compromise, yes, but at least it sounds somewhat "professional" and has an element of posterity to it.

Yes, nightops.org is available, and yes, I considered buying it. In the end, though, N-ONET is better than NOORG.

Night-Ops.Net is brilliant to be fair.

We're NONET once more! (Well, N-ONET!) :)

Cheers Secant!

Domain squatters are an unreasonable bunch. They buy up expired or unregistered domains and essentially extort potential buyers. It's a crap system, and ICANN does a crap job of regulating it.

The site name is fine like this I feel. No real need to change it, if the price for the old domain gets cheaper, great snatch it up if not leave it as is.

Do you know any more about the domain squatters? Couldn't you possibly wait till it expires and register it before they do?

Any info on them you could provide me with may help get it back into your hands...

They'll re-register it before it expires, especially now that they've been approached. It's pretty safe to say we're not getting it back.
