Hello there.

I'll make sure to keep this intro short so that you guys don't get bored.

Greetings. My name is The Mutilator, but my online friends call me "Muty". I'll cut right to the chase: I'm a masked vigilante. Sounds fucking stupid, I know. But I can assure you...none of you know how stupid I really am yet. You will once you get to know me of course. Anyway, I've been poking around this forum and I really like what I've read so far. As a vigilante, stealth is an important skill to have, so you can imagine how hard I shat my pants when I discovered this place.

Unfortunately there's no training academy for vigilantes so I've pretty much had to piece it all together myself. There are others of course. I talk to many vigilantes frequently, sharing tips and whatnot. But lately I've been looking to expand my skill set further, especially the skills necessary for infiltration, B&E, intelligence gathering, etc. And it appears I've come to the right place. I'm beyond thrilled to get to know some of you and improve my skills for vigilante work. I'm happy to answer any questions you guys might have. Signing off for now.

-Muty

For now I mainly just patrol my neighborhood at night. I haven't run into too much in the three years I've been doing this, but I have stopped a few crimes. When I was 16 I stopped a drug deal. Then I got addicted to drugs, so I stopped targeting drug dealers. Other than that, it's just the occasional domestic disturbance. I've stopped a few fights. But as of late I've been doing more internet based investigation. Targeting specific people rather than randomly running into crimes in progress on patrol. Hope that answers your question.

Why? What motivates you? I am not trying to be annoying, I am just seeking to understand.

Oh, and do not do drugs...

I care about people and I want to help them. I think it's fucked up that there are people in this world that get away with human trafficking, producing child porn, assaulting people, etc. Honestly anger is what motivates me.

Well at least you're doing something constructive. Anger's a powerful motivator.

Unfortunately, people like you only see the smallest picture there is. Anger motivates you? While powerful, it lacks control, which is necessary. You will not be seen as a hero by anyone, and whether deserved or not, there is a high probability of prison time for you. I do not think you would fair well due to why you went to prison, for beating up criminals. But, who am I to stop you? To undertake something like this requires intelligence that few people have, and considering you are focused on beating up street thugs, I would say that that type of intelligence is lacking, but it is in most people. I am not trying to be a jerk, but you have to be realistic. Why bother with street thugs when you could target prominent corrupt individuals? Who actually affect more lives than common losers who are likely to go to prison anyway, unless they are pedophiles of course, who get a slap on the wrist. You also have to consider where you are located. I am Polish but live in the U.S., in Florida, or hell as I call it, and I would not even consider becoming a vigilante or whatever. North Africa, India, some of the middle east, and a few other areas make great spots to do something more meaningful than street thugs. But, once again, who am I to tell you off? Do whatever you like, just beware of the consequences. There is a thread in here on vigilantism too, and eventually, everyone settles down and realizes that an imbecile with non-lethal weapons and a mask running around taking out the "bad" guys is a stupid idea. Someone intelligent should do something, and not vigilantism, but more assassination. Look at the historical ninja and the original assassin, the "Hashashin", and then mix the two. You now have the perfect recipe, and all you have to do is make sure the leader is smart and can manage the group and himself. The rest of the people should not be smart enough to see through the leader's manipulation, but smart enough to pull off the deeds that need to be done. Unfortunately, or maybe, fortunately, this is nigh impossible. So, in the end, one has to deal with the suffering of the world. Just find what makes you happy in the end really and do not worry about the starving children in Africa, because there are also starving children a few miles away... Yeah, I just shattered most liberals reality.

I appreciate the criticism. I actually agree with a lot of your points. Mainly the thing about beating up random street thugs instead of targeting individuals who are more deserving of punishment. I'm working on trying to adopt the "assassin" approach so that I can do more than just put away the lowest level criminals. I have friends who have taken down bigger criminal operations and I'm working towards doing the same. The main thing stopping me from jumping right into that is my lack of skills. In order to take on higher risk operations, I need to be more skillful and smart in my approach. So you're right. And I had a feeling you guys would have some good insight on vigilantism in general. I'll check out that thread you mentioned.

Find ways to work on your skills as a detective.

You should also practice lip reading, speed reading, and total recall techniques along with other learning techniques.

The internet is an infinite recourse. Learn all the maths and sciences available to you.

Martial arts are helpful, I recommend a mix between Muay Thai and BJJ; throwing in some Wrestling and Judo. The most important Martial art to learn is Parkour, this will obviously compliment your stealth skills.

Learning the most common languages used in your country would also be a huge benefit.

Learn about physiology.

Learn interrogation techniques.

There is a lot more that I didn't put here, I'm in a rush.

You would be better off working inside the law honestly.

I appreciate the feedback. However I have no interest in working within the law. It's too big of a limiter. As for everything else, I agree. Those are all skills that would benefit me and my work.

Don't forget to find this guy and train with his group for a while. He'll teach you all about putting criminals in their place:

Assuming you aren't a LARPer, keep doing what you're doing and you should get an opportunity to learn all about the criminal mind real soon -- up close and personal.

Most, if not all the information in damn near every possible degree you could obtain is available for free online.

More or less, I do agree. However, you have to have the intelligence and willpower to effectively teach it to yourself, and even then, you may miss out on some aspects of a professional degree. I also take college for granted sometimes because I do it for free because of dual enrollment and a scholarship thing, so I may neglect to think of the cost. Textbooks cost 100 dollars, and we do not even use them for most classes, so I can only imagine how pissed someone who paid for it would be. Anyways, as an example, I can drill everything a spec ops soldier does, from mental conditioning to firearms. But I still need the ability to drive myself and organize it to come near the skill that they have. I am pretty lazy so I have to space everything I do out, but you seem to have motivation so I wish you good luck!
