Pepper spray
Who carries pepper spray on missions? I'm thinking of getting a small keychain unit to take care of dogs or guards who get to close. What do you guys think?

Re: Pepper spray
I think its a good idea, I don't have pepper spray at the moment. I do use a mixture of perfume and a few other chemicals though. Quite a painful mixture.

Thats a good idea because it also attacks the scents in the nose as well as the eyes.preistpower wrote:I think its a good idea, I don't have pepper spray at the moment. I do use a mixture of perfume and a few other chemicals though. Quite a painful mixture.

Re: Pepper spray
I believe pepper spray is pretty easy to get usually. Especially small amounts, like key chain ones and stuff.

Gas stations maybe, hmm. Any big superstore like walmart.kmart, maybe walgreens? Would most likely have some form of pepper spray.

Re: Pepper spray
Fortunately I live two blocks (very small blocks, I live in a smallish town) from a knife/weapon store that has some cool, abet poor quality stuff. The owner is fine with selling stuff to minors, last I checked.
Re: Pepper spray
Where I live they sell cans at running stores, and some hunting/camping outfitters sell them as well.Blue_Social wrote:Yet again I say. "Where?"

3 PARTS: Alcohol
1/2 PARTS: Iodine
1/2 PARTS: Salt
Or:
3 PARTS: Alcohol
1 PARTS: Iodized Salt (Morton's)
It’s not actual mace, but it does a damn good job on the eyes…
Found this somewhere online, anyone thinks this may be useful?

I always weak safety glasses. It helps me a lot so that I don't get crap in my eyes.CokeCanNinja wrote:

But maybe I'll make the pepper spray more like a liquid in a water bottle so that when it hits there face it can drip into their eyes even when they start to rub it out.

Re: Pepper spray
So it won't work if the spray gets into the mouth/nose/anywhere else than the eyes?

Real Oc spray works on the "eyes and ears and mouth and nose".V-- wrote:So it won't work if the spray gets into the mouth/nose/anywhere else than the eyes?

I covered this in another thread, but it can buy you from 3-24 hrs of scent blocking on a dog, depending on how porous the surface is, and the weather conditioning. I can't remember which one, I think it was open source canine defeat, look around, it's very good, and I tested it with my hunting dog.
Re: Pepper spray
I have a pepper spray and a metsubushi (homemade). I carry mostly the latter...

Re: Pepper spray
i know for a FACT that even in states where pepper spray is illegal, there are commercial sprays that are intended for use against Bears , also something for bees. in my opinion, if it can take down a bear, it can take down anything fucking else

Re: Pepper spray
Two things need to be considered when using pepper spray in the field.
The first is that often, at least half as much of the spray that hits the target will hit you. Splash and mist are likely to come back to you unless you are standing in the perfect direction facing upwind from someone and the wind is really strong. Most people don't really expect this and when they use it, they find that surprise! It burns you as well. If you're going to buy pepper spray, buy two cans and use the first one on a "dummy target" so you know what it's like. Have someone else spray you in the face with the rest of it. I'm not joking, it's important to know what it feels like.
Second, there are big differences between a controlled spray to the face - like from a friend, a cop or security guard spraying you in the face, and someone who may very well try to kill you spraying you in the face. Pepper spray does not physically stop you. It is a deterrent meant to discourage you. That means that given the proper inclination, it can be fought through. Generally, there's no good reason to deal with the pain if a friend or cop is spraying you, so you might as well just give up. However, if you startle someone at night or confront someone who has a weapon, pepper spray is NOT going to stop them. They are going to go into panic mode and might even try harder to attack you to eliminate what they see as a threat to their life.
But with that in mind, in a lot of cases pepper spray can certainly at least help. It can stun someone long enough for you to escape or get a head start running away. The important thing is that the use is judicious - don't use it if it can potentially make the situation worse. Plus again, know what you're getting yourself into by feeling the spray yourself. Some is going to hit you, you can ask any policeman or guard who uses it regularly. When you pull out the spray and prepare to use it, you'll at least know what's coming but it's going to be a surprise to them. The surprise is half the battle with that stuff.
