My Most Basic Gear

Post by MLB » Mon Jul 12, 2010 6:05 am

-5.5" bowie knife, very durable
-phillipshead and flathead screwdriver
-electrical tape
-crappy mini-flashlight for the time being
-Black t-shirt ninja mask
-long sleeve black undershirt
-larger black t-shirt
-black sweats
-black skate shoes w/ excellent grip

This is all I have for now, and my partner and I are doing our first mini op in just a few days. Mostly recon, possibly some roofing.

Nice kit bro... Always good to keep is simple :D

I haven't got a lot - my main loadout consists of:

- SOG Knife
- Multitool
- Lockpicks
- Black BDU pants
- Black shirt
- Small maglite
- Black running shoes

Nothing too flash... But I do have some stuff for special purposes like crowbars and all that...

for me...

- a stainless steel Multitool I got free with magazine membership.
- black BDU pants,
- Shipper's sweater
- Black Balaclava
- paperclip lockpicks (which have a tendency of getting stuck between pins, I learned that one the hard way. not going to use paperclips again, nevermore)
- Black FILA walking shoes.
- Leather Thinsulate Officer's gloves. Which are remarkably usefull for such thick gloves...

offcourse, I've got the Dare-ops notes lying around, Screwdrivers, Crowbars, Binoculars, Flashlights, Ductape, Diving gear, and so forth. But are nota part of my 'basic' gear. No, not even the flashlight. It does more bad than good to my natural night vision and my visibility. In my humble opinion.

I have one of those red light filters on my light and I must say it does preserve your night vision better than a normal light... But mine's only for a 'OMG I can't see jack shit' moment... :D

I prefer to have red and white light - be it a filter, headlamp with options, or two flashlights altogether. Red is great for movement, but when I want to see what things are I like white so I can distinguish color.

you may wanna invest in a real mask instead of those t-shirt masks. I can't really hear very well when i wear the t-shirt masks, but i bought a mask from here:

works beautifully when you need coverage but want to conserve peripheral vision and hearing
