Stepping Down As Admin Soon

Post by Psychlonic » Wed Dec 22, 2010 8:42 pm

When I asked to be admin, things were really crap at the time. A lot of you weren't around, but basically there was an issue with moderators doing some things with posts that were messed up. I felt it was turning a lot of people away. Now, I sort of think my quality standards might be asking a little much of users and just as repulsive to the inexperienced. Furthermore, my objectives are rarely in line with the spirit of night ops. Night ops has always accepted burglars to partake in discussions, but those people have never really been true "operatives". I've said once before and I'll say again that I do not consider myself a true operative as I am interested in more than mere exploration.

With that in mind and since things are largely in line now, I don't think 3 admins are really necessary and my position is sort of redundant. I will be stepping down to encourage a new cast of operatives to come to night ops and have open discussions about tactics and gear without enforcing my own high standard of quality. I've realized that not everyone wants to make as big of a deal out of the skill as I do, and it's rather unfair to others to expect that.

Hopefully a result of this will be more free discussion of ideas, even if they are wrong. Wrong or not, at least there will be a flow of ideas that can evolve. I always wanted to continue evolving further and further, but realistically maybe 3 people on this entire site want to get to that level, so it's pointless. Finally, stepping down will prevent me from weeding out who I personally deem to be "crap", so far as denying recruitment initiatives on certain websites.

For these reasons I feel that being de-admined is necessary for the survival and growth of night-ops.net, simply taking a back seat and being more lenient on the standards is not sufficient as I will be plenty tempted to use my own bias against potentially dangerous/stupid ideas.

That's all.

So are you still going to be hanging around?

He probably will, but I'll salute anyway.

As randomly as always I suppose, yes.

You should give your admin powers to me.

Quite seriously, I've never seen that much 'true' oppers compared to most of the people that post on here. For as far as I can tell Black Ops and Bad Ideas used to be more frequented in the past.

That all aside, though, Psych, I always saw you as one of the top admins. Hell, I can't even recall off the top of my head who the third one was next to you and Secant. You did good work, you managed to kick some sence into us idiots for every mistake we make, you know your shit, and you're around frequent.

Best to you man, you did a good job, and I hope we can at least keep learning from you.

Hmm, well it seems that the third - Therin - was reverted to just a global moderator. Regardless, Secant is all the site really needs as far as administration. He does a pretty good job of updating the software and optimizing everything when he gets sudden bursts of motivation every now and then.

I made this topic just to get the word out so anyone having account troubles wouldn't PM or email me when I'm no longer an admin. Other than that, there won't be much as far as changes go for anyone else.

Anyways, Secant might want a new moderator soon to cover the site more frequently with me unable to do that. The other two moderators, Therin and MIB, don't come online too often anymore. I would really prefer to just be a regular user from this point on, so there may be a nomination thread in the near future.

Psychlonic has been removed from the Administrator and Global Moderator groups. An open invitation for him to return to the site's administration stands from this point forward.
