Leaks and discord

Post by Vengeance » Sat Apr 15, 2023 10:04 pm

While i doubt this will be a problem it's still worth knowing what i'm about to share.
This is directed to people in the Discord server.
Recently there was an alleged leak of government (U.S) documents related to military and intelligence agencies.
The leaks originated from a Minecraft Discord server. So, Discord's being closely monitored.
It's the nature of this beast to feed upon the will to numb it, this monster brought the seed of life, well now i have become it.

I saw the news on that too. Gaming chat platforms have been a host to whole lot of leaks and illegal activities quite a bit in recent years.

Discord is spyware so I'd use it appropriately.

It's isn't a for minor tresspassers and hobbyiests like us. Like anything the only stuff that really gets you on radar is
1 Screwing with a large amount of money for tax evasion
2 Drugs and manufacture
3 Defrauding
2 Telling people all about Full auto drop in sears, encouraging illegal use of supressors and thinking it's info that everyone doesen't know in order to appear to be an "Operator" You know, stuff that glows harder than Chernobyl at midnight. Bonus points for pretending to have sigint or osint knowladge too.
No one here is carrying a knights armament AR build fitted for wet work with clip on thermal hybrid nods using relay coms to do anything but people acting like that they are will attract more attention from people who are obligated to care more than any discord, telegram or Irc chat. People are morons.

Discord has always been a compromise. There are a whole bunch of issues with it. The fur fandom cub pornography backers, the fact that Tencent has a controlling stake in it, that they quietly changed the terms of service to omit a former privacy clause last year and that it has paralell communities in telegram causing a lot of spillage.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvNkdAggUGU Moon did an infotainment mini documentary on a lot of this. It's not just old info either. I've been part of many discords that were shut down simply for talking about transactions. Nothing illicit, but enough to bust terms of service. Meanwhile communities full of actual groomers get off scot free. To put it bluntly, discord has been well known to be compromised from it's inception. There are a whole bunch of 4chan servers that are well aware of this as even 4chan itself is loaded with plants, agents and the like. This is a known quantity and there is an entire meme strain devoted soley to joking about a lot of this. Mostly FBI, ATF, etc.
You can always request data from them to see what they have and see what the damage is. But stallman is right as was moglen years ago.

The thing is this comes right after the Tik Tok hearings which although a risk wasn't being actively understood by older people who seek to legislate out function itself. Everything they asked the tik tok hearing rep could apply to android, discord, linux etc. It's insane. Based on that poor grasp of tech is how they will write laws that apply to the US and thus to most 5 eyes allies as well. Basically all client chat witth logs has this issue. Especially closed clients. Take telegram, Banned in russia but the russian state still maintains a massive number of anti russian government protest groups online. That's right. Anti russian protest groups. Mostly to diseminate leaks which act as fear doubt and undertainty enforcement. Propaganda using the other side is a common habit of the state.

There was also the Identify and Disrupt Act for Australians, which if you don't know allows the total seizure of accounts without a warrant. Absolute corruption incarnate.

It's an abuse magnet and any power granted is stolen.

The vice is always turning on tech. Eben Moglen put it well years ago in a speech Innovation under Austerity.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUty2hGo6oM
YEARS ago mind you.

To cut to the most important part of that is a transscript quote - 1995 this conversation happened mind you

As eben moglen tells it.
"And after it was all over, we walked across the Harvard campus for dinner at the Harvard Faculty Club and on the way across the campus Jamie Gorelick said to me "Eben, on the basis of nothing more than your public statements this afternoon I have enough to order the interception of your telephone conversations." In 1995 that was a joke. It was a joke in bad taste when told to a citizen by an official of the United States Justice Department. But it was a joke. And we all laughed because everybody knew you couldn't do that.

So we ate our dinner, and the table got cleared and all the plates went away, and the port and walnuts got scattered around, and Stewart Baker looked up and said "alright, we'll let our hair down", and he had none then and he has none now, but "we'll let our hair down" Stewart said, "we're not going to prosecute your client Mr Zimmerman. We've spent decades in a holding action against Public Key Encryption it's worked pretty well but it's almost over now, we're gonna let it happen." And then he looked around the table and he said, "but nobody here cares about anonymity do they?" A cold chill went up my spine.

And I thought, "OK, Stewart, I understand how it is. You're going to let there be Public Key Encryption because the bankers are going to need it. And you're going to spend the next 20 years trying to stop people from being anonymous ever again, and I'm going to spend those 20 years trying to stop you." So far I must say from my friend Mr. Baker has been doing better than I had hoped, and I have been doing even worse than I had feared."

So TLDR treat all open net including here as datamined, encrypt your shit if you must use a device and neuter all devices asap. Or go without. That's what I primarily do.
We are fast approaching a part of the tech epoch where that wont be enough simply because someone without devices that do the usual accociated pings nearby will be more suspiocious than somoene who carries a phone, carries a bluetooth headset, carries a tablet, or has a smart watch. It's not uncommon for somoene to have all of these talking on a commute and get tagged by passive sensors. Free wifi anyone?

Didn't Discord update their policy recently that they'll be recording audio & text conversations?
We are all books containing thousands of pages and within each lies an irreparable truth.

Yeah they started retaining for the purposes of compliance with glowies and insurance requires them to be able to enforce on thier platform. This is also partially due to the Tencent thing after the tik tok insanity. The vice clamps tighter.

Everything is often adware, spyware, or signup bait now. It's true.
