Historical Stealth Thread

Post by Shadow Scout » Thu Mar 18, 2021 10:08 pm

I started this thread to post resources related to historical stealth operators and operations. It’s always interesting and inspiring to learn about those who came before us.

To kick things off, here's an interesting resource: The Ye Ban Tou -- Chinese masters of stealth

Les Conn is doing research out of Hong Kong on these "Chinese ninjas". I'm hoping he publishes a book, because there's not much information about them.

Here's one of his videos on the topic: Who were the Chinese "Ninja"? - Part 1

This is a cool idea, is WWII considered too recent? I have some other periods, I just find WWII pretty interesting

Anything before the present is fine, as far as I'm concerned.

Speaking of World War II, here's another resource: The Last Samurai

Click on "The Last Samurai" story (or go here). It's tragic in a way; this guy was obviously a very skilled, brave and patriotic operative, a real ninja, but he was blamed for Japan's destruction and became a total outcast after the war.

I appreciate this guy's approach to the history of... we'll say ancient stealth operatives. Reminds me a lot of how we approach ancient western martial arts today.

Anthony Cummins has written several books regarding the historical ninja, from translations of old texts to modern original works cross analyzing. I have one or two books, here is a list of them from Amazon; https://www.amazon.com/s?k=anthony+cumm ... _sb_noss_1

I have one of his books. The translation of the Shoninki, which I think I've quoted here once or twice before.
