Video Repository

Post by Psychlonic » Mon Mar 15, 2021 3:00 am

So I realize we have a video section in our library, but I've been thinking with the instability of various platforms elsewhere it might be handy to keep a backup of videos we've found elsewhere stored away for posterity.

I don't know the limits of our storage on site but I myself have a rather substantially sized library and I can imagine the bandwidth usage would pile up pretty fast so I doubt Secant would dig the idea of hosting everything here. However, there's nothing stopping us from having a few upload sites piled up with videos stored away. These have become my favored method of ideas with the traditional texts becoming the supplementary material, I personally find it far more efficient to learn new ideas to try out this way.

As this isn't pertinent to the site itself I can't really place this in Suggestions, but how does this sound to you guys? Also, should there be limitations on what we share? There are a lot of content creators and I know some of you come here periodically and you're going to read this topic. Although I think some of the constant uploading/hiding cycles are a bit ridiculous, I do respect a creator's decision to want to drop off the radar. As we've discussed in other topics, it's a strange future ahead of us where pasts will be parsed through by algorithms and honestly our best bet is to hope we're all grandfathered in.

So that out of the way, what say you? And how does Mega sound as a first foray?

Sounds like a great idea, especially for logging Shadow Work's videos if/when he ever decides to upload again. The only concern would he having a platform that can host the files in perpetuity. I've thought about uploading them to a separate Youtube channel and just having them all unlisted (so only those with the links from this site can watch them) but I don't know how feasible that would be.

I've got a literal axe to grind today (repurposing a found head into a bushcraft hatchet) but tonight I'll see about uploading some of the relevant vids on a Mega account until a better solution is found. I don't think there's any gold that's not currently online but I may be wrong.

I have the majority of Shadow Work's videos that he uploaded on his most recent resurfacing saved to a folder on my desktop. Not the biggest tech guy, but if you guys agree on a platform, I can upload them all.
