First, I'm putting this here and not "gear" because these run over $100 and I know most operatives don't want to spend that kind of money on gear. Nor should they to be honest.

But for anyone that really wants an amazing EDC, this is a great candidate. I'm a big fan of the Cold Steel tri-lock folders and IMO they're the only folding knives strong enough to carry for serious use. The Frenzies are no different - super strong locks. In addition, the weight is perfect, the balance is good, and the blade is just vicious. I own a few CS tri-lock folders including a Rajah II, Recon 1 XL, Voyager XL spear point, and now this guy. It's my favorite of the bunch, strikes the balance of traits I like almost perfectly. Oh, and the slim profile G-10 handle is really grippy.

Worth checking out perhaps, not trying to be an advertisement but I'm so happy with the blade I just figured I'd share! :)

I've been kinda sceptical of ColdSteel's quality control (or lack thereof) and their folders (at least the Ti-Lites that I've owned) have loosened up quite a bit over not a very long time.

Myself and even moreso another guy here pretty much go after their tri-ad lock folders exclusively, I haven't heard anything great about any of their other offerings but these are beasts. My Rajah II has loosened up a bit but I've also owned that one for nearly 5 years now and have used it extensively. That said, it's still not loose to the point of opening when unwanted and when you consider the heavy blade I'd say it's doing really, really well. I'd say the general marketplace is in agreement, most of their tri-ad lock mega folders only appreciate in value as time goes on. The specific build on the Rajah II I own, for instance, is now worth about $150 when I paid half that originally.

Unfortunately that's sort of the bump most will find with CS, I think. Anything below their top end tri-ad lock folders aren't really anything special. The number one reason I go with CS is because they seem to be the only company that takes mega folders seriously and I trust their design to -briefly- handle work you'd normally only entrust to a fixed blade. For anything smaller that you know you're not going to rough house I think there are other options that might be better. The aforementioned other user, for instance, swears by Spyderco and he's a pretty hardcore folder collector. Myself, I'm more of a user and any folder smaller than what's been mentioned... I honestly don't care most of them handle my small daily tasks just fine. For what it's worth, in those scenarios I just pocket a blade from the gentleman's knife collection - typically a vintage Old Timer.

I'm having a blast with that balisong I picked up at NOPCON 2. It's my EDC for work now. Not sure exactly what steel it is or even who manufactured it, but I've put that thing through the wringer and haven't had to re-sharpen it nor has the tip deformed - and I've been cutting, slicing, prying, stabbing and breaking damn near everything with it.
