Night Ops

Like old times, maybe we can have a sticky that people can post in to let others know when they're in the chat room? Just a little "In chat now guys"; or even schedule chats..

I figure, if we build up the community spirit - the interaction between individual members, we can boost the amount of activity!

So I'll go first, I'm in chat now guys!

I'm a little bit surprised that there's a requirement to add this ammendment to the thread; but whatever... It's been highlighted that some people are annoyed that the chatroom is not specifically based around one topic. It's worth remembering that this thread itself happens to be located in "Spurious Generalities"; ergo - the chat room is essentially an extension of this part of the forum.

As such, there is no primary topic in chat, and it's a place to freely to talk about what you want. If you don't like the current topic then feel free to change it. It's also worth remembering that users come in regularly, and as such topics are likely to change with different users.

I'm really liking this thread. I'm tired of showing up and seeing that I missed talking to somebody by 5 minutes.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure in the past theres been similar and it worked quite well!

There's nothing better than having a real time chat about things, I think the chat room is a pretty overlooked feature of the forums tbh.

Alas, I ended up having a buddy come around to look at some gear and left chat running for 5 hours.. Oops.

Also, the chat app has the ability to do multiple rooms (a la IRC) - I know some people were concerned about privacy as it shows the last messages when a new user enters a room; for 1:1 conversations this is easy to negate by private messaging (also supported by the chat app), alternatively you can just "/join 2938#!" (where "2938#!" is a random string), pass the random string in a private message and have a private group conversation..

phpBB nicknames can also be integrated into it which is pretty cool!

sounds like a good idea actually. An Actual chat room would be a better. That would give faster responses.

There is, in the main Index under the 'Links' section there's a NONET Chat link. We're a globally dispersed bunch so the timezones don't always match up with each other's schedules, but drop in and take a chance. It's certainly become more active as of late (particularly in the morni- well, my mornings at least).

Also, I've had to make an amendment to the OP - please read it and bare it in mind whilst in the chat-room. It's the place where anything goes, so the thought of drama occurring in what is essentially a "free for all" is pretty annoying for everyone involved. Cheers.
