As probably the most guilty of many of these high-tech concepts, I do apologize. It should be understood my posts on such come from a background of science and biotech that I play from other motivation and think "This could cross over into night ops". 1. I like the interactions & sharing of knowledge. It's what forums are all about. Not only can you post/ask whatever you want, but everyone can respond to it openly and no idea is above scrutiny. 2. The obscurity, which is necessary I suppose but old style forums like this just don't have the reach...

You need to break them in. Wear them for a while, walk across concrete & other abrasive surfaces and they'll soften up somewhat. All footwear (especially boots of all kinds) need a break-in period.

Re: Cover, Concealment, and Camouflage: A key aspect of remaining undetected

Understanding the difference between cover & concealment applies to situations where guns are involved - you hear people who conceal carry talk about this topic a lot. While it's not a topic that has a lot of active application in Night Ops, there may come a time where we are pursued/searched for by...

I've never opped in the snow before (proper 'snow' is still considered witchcraft down here) but I'd lean more towards leaving no trace behind, footprints included. No point getting in & out unseen if I leave a literal trail leading back to my house.

True. Only reason knights, samurai, etc were associated with swords was because they were easier to carry around all the time, unlike a spear or halberd. Swords were analogous to pistols these days - every soldier carries one, but rarely ever use them in place of a rifle.

It's usually enough to know what type of target you're infiltrating (school, church, etc) that you don't really need to mention the specific target you're infiltrating (unless it's a particularly interesting one). Carrying & operating a drone can be a real pain on an op, but it would be useful for pre-op recon of a target before infiltrating. Don't wanna vault blindly over that wall into a compound?
