They used to sell a flashlight named the "night ops gladius". I'm not sure if they make it anymore, but that's probably why you're getting that result.

I carried when i was in school as well, but that was a few years ago. Things seem like they have become more paranoid since then, so it's up to you whether you want to risk it either way.

Just a reminder, try not to double/triplepost. As for the list, i'm going to be putting a basic list of my own. In the spirit of generating more content, i'd highly encourage anyone else to post what they would suggest a new opper get to start out with, provided that opper doesn't mind spending a li...

Re: Plans Change? Go home.
I feel like that'll make for a lot of wasted effort. i intentionally make my plans "loose", with a lot of leeway for last-minute changes. The ability to improvise and adapt is crucial to success on ops, and experience is the best teacher. I'll be perfectly honest, roughly 50% of my ops are done with...

In my experience it's usually between 10 and 15 minutes, but like Xanatos said - there could be a patrol car driving by less than a minute away that happens to get called in. If you're not sure whether you tripped the alarm or not, i'd probably retreat to someplace safe and keep watch for at least 3...

I've always been a fan of fingerless gloves for opping, as long as you're not doing anything where fingerprints are a concern. I feel like retaining as much manual dexterity as you can is pretty important. I usually wear these: http://www.blackhawk.com/product/SOLAG-Special-Ops-12-Finger-Light-Assau...

If you can find a blank that would fit, you could try a technique called impressioning. Essentially you find a blank that fits and set it up so that when you insert it and try to turn it the obstructions will scratch it or leave marks on the key. It usually helps if you coat the key with something t...

Xanatos, i know exactly what you mean. there is definitely an "opping smell" that clings to unwashed gear. some combination of freshly cut grass, dew, and damp earth. With a hint of rain. It could be either. For the adrenaline, for curiosity, to test yourself, or better yourself. To gain knowledge or possessions. We try to leave things up to the individual to determine what a night op means to them. One thing though - if your ops include very illegal things, we probably don't want to...

Not entirely related, but if you're moving through the woods silently and you're worried about snapping sticks, set your foot down flatly on the ground, and then slowly transfer your weight onto it, instead of sudden stepping. It helps to balance out your weight, and gives you a chance to pull your ...

Hushmail was never really meant to be a secure answer, it merely makes it that much more of a pain in the ass for your local law enforcement agencies to snoop on you. I'm going to be perfectly honest here, if a government really wants to read your emails, and snoop on your online activity, there's n...
Re: M.R.E.s
Yup, they were legitimate US military MREs. If you're not interested in paying for the actual military ones, the same companies that are contracted to produce them for the military also often sell civilian versions that are essentially the same, with only minor differences in packaging.
Re: M.R.E.s
Hah, if i never see an MRE again it'll be too soon. They definitely work, although after a week or so of eating them some people tend to have certain... difficulties. I believe you should be able to just order them in bulk off of amazon. My favorite was always the pork sausage breakfast MRE, but bee...
