Re: State of the Fringe Forum
I personally use pidgin which supports OTR as does another former member here, we speak pretty regularly on it. My AIM user should still function on there for those who know it, but I can make a new account specifically for NON and run that.

Perhaps you are right, and that we should simply accept that the times have forced the fringe forum to go underground. In a way I suppose this is nothing new. The old days of &totse didn't involve simply punching in a web address but rather going through the old BBS system and it survived long enoug...

Either would suffice, I wager. Just as long as it's real-time to keep the ideas really flowing. Just recently caught wind that Zoklet is down. I'm sure this is old news to many, but for me it seems a bit lousy. When &T went down, I kind of just laughed because it was such a joke anyway, but now most of its clones have tanked as well or morphed into shells of their former self. The fringe forum...

Not really, since I don't go into pitch black combat scenarios and I've managed pretty well without all of that thus far. I mean they'd be cool to play with, sure, but I'd never take them on a night op.

Re: Goggle ?
In my opinion NV is cool but better suited for fighting systems than night ops, not actually because it helps you see marginally better but because it makes aiming easier than it is in the daytime. There are a few cases where a pocketed monocular might come in handy but for the most part it's just a...

Several years ago there was a build using a low cost HMD and a compact computer that did this sort of thing for night ops. In my mind what I can take away from that is that the build can be REALLY fun but shouldn't be used as a way to improve your ability on ops where you can get by without it anyho...

A belt or tiny book bag work great if you need to carry any decent amount of gear. I prefer radios for team communication. You can get by on somewhat budget radios with encryption ability and earpieces. Just installed Freenet and going to get into this. Why aren't we doing this anyway? Are we all getting so old and accustomed to the status quo that we're afraid of change? Decentralized internet with freenet and encrypted chat would eliminate so many of our security concerns here.

Most people don't dress the way they do for the sake of looking cool. It's a simple matter of functionality and often availability. For the actual op, however, there really is no excuse for going in civvies. The idea of night ops is not to be seen at all, and going in "inconspicuously" implies you're willing to or expect to be spotted. Basically, if you're somewhere you're not supposed to be, you need to take every precaution t...

Depends. Car alarms tend to break down into microwave or ultrasonic varieties. Microwave sensors put out microwaves and detect reflections typically within 3 feet. Welcome, sir. Ranches can make pretty good ops, just be careful about getting near houses. Rural areas also make it really easy to enter the nearest town from any direction since you can encircle it as much as you need.
