Huh. Never seen those above ground, but I've seen them as windows that are used on basements, but much smaller in scale. Even businesses around here are vertical, or swinging windows.

The techniques you mentioned would seem to only work on old wooden vertically sliding windows. The modern horizontally sliding ones with the metal frames have much stronger locks and the glass has more of a tendency to shatter. When I have had to, simple aggression, Speed, Surprise and Brutal techniques have put me on top 100% of the time; try to knock an opponent down, and knock the wind out (or KO if you know what's good) and book it.

Actually, A single edged blade and doubled edge blade are equally combat effectve; except the spear point. A spear point is weak, as the pith is formed at the center. its more about Violence of action than anything.
