Re: Hidding places of my gear at my parents' house?
Don't keep a kit in one place for it all to be discovered at once. Keep a flashlight near your nightstand, a multitool or knife on a shelf, camo/black clothes at the bottom of the dresser drawers, masks with winter gear, etc. It shouldn't take an excessive amount of time to get everything ready sin...

Interesting that you should mention Richard Marcinko's books, I read Rogue Warrior this year.

Re: obtaining gear
how would i get gear, without alerting my parents? would an army surplus be good? You could go to a military-type store, there should be everything you need there. Most gear you can get at a Wal-Mart. Another possibility would be to rationalize getting gear, like saying it's for airsoft or paintbal...

Re: Do you carry a tool to incapacitate on ops?
I usually carry a small impact weapon and a pocket knife. At the moment it's a Comtech Stinger, a device that concentrates the force of a punch and can easily break someone's ribs, but isn't a knuckle duster. I've carried a kubaton before. A defensive weapon is part of my EDC.
Re: OPSGEAR
USCav.com is also a good supplier of various gear useful in ops, but mainly clothes and load-bearing equipment. For some kit such as flashlights and knives, it's best to buy from a store specializing in such of goods as the large stores tend to vary in price and have a lesser selection in them.

Re: Your current clothing of choice?
Olive drab long sleeve T-shirt, OD BDU or cargo pants, jungle boots, black balaclava, leather duty gloves. OD is quite versatile in areas with foliage and isn't too dark.
Re: just 1
A folding knife. Legal and useful.

Flashlights
Here's a good resource for learning about torches: candlepowerforums.com You can search the forums without being a member. There are many reviews on the forum. Sometimes you need a lot of light in a pocket sized package. I've ordered an Eagle Tac P100C2 which according to the manufacturer can put ou...
Re: Gloves?
I use leather police duty gloves which are thin but durable and have saved my hands when climbing. Gloves by Hatch look useful when you need dexterity, especially the "specialist" gloves. I also reccomend flight gloves.

New Domain Name
I think that changing the domain name would greatly increase the number of users and further night ops. You've probably considered this before and I don't know the exact costs involved but I imagine there is something available that's closely related to night ops. Nightops.org seems to be available ...

Re: Some tips.
A good way to develop your nightvision before an op is to sit in the dark with sunglasses. Once you can see clearly, take them off and you'll see things as clear as day. Went on an op last week (just a bit of recon on a stadium) and tried this trick, I found it difficult to find good shadows to hid...
Re: Clothing
I went out last night taking a walk after setting off some fireworks since it was Independence Day and it would be normal for people to be out. I got a better idea of what my neighborhood looks like during late night since my first op was in another, but similar area. There was nearly a full moon so...

Re: Am I the only one pissed off at this shit?
If the amount of posts on forums, blogs, and such regarding night ops and Google searches can indicate anything night ops are almost dead. I have a couple of friends who have night opped who've never heard of night ops as they're known here. So maybe it's a wider phenomenon than it is known. I'm sor...
Re: Clothing
Sounds good. Thanks for your help.
Clothing
What color of clothing would be the most useful at night in a suburban area? I'm thinking of olive drab, navy blue, or dark gray. Would black be effective or would it stand out unless in nearly total darkness? I've done one night op before in woodland BDU which suited my area of ops well which has a...

Re: Art of War Sun Tzu
I've read Thomas Cleary's translation which has his introduction and comments from historical Chinese figures on the Art of War. It is is very useful for general conflict.
Re: Pants?
Navy blue, dark gray, or olive drab cargo pants can work.
