Strength Training Dilemma

Post by Lynx » Wed Mar 12, 2014 10:15 pm

I'm in a bit of a dilemma here.
Lately I've been doing bodyweight only. Pullup variations - one day pullups, one day chinups, one day random variation, one day weighted chins/pullups and so on.
I have noticed some good strength gains. Started doing every variation of pullup you can imagine.

I have been doing this because i do not have access to a gym with proper weightlifting equipment. Now i have a chance to go to one.
Before when i used to lift, i was doing a 3-day compound focused split. Deads, Squats, Rows, Bench. I did get great strength gains those weeks i did it, added a considerable amount of weight to the bar, but i go pretty shit at pullups and chins. Sadly, my weights were taken from me, so i could not continue.

I really value my pullup ability. So much easier to climb things. Feels great. It would be tough to give it up in favor of weights.

My question is, can i do a program like StrongLifts 5x5 and maintain my pullup ability?
Don't take it too seriously, you're not coming out of it alive.

Weight belt + pull ups.
Sacrifice the body, not the heart.

Been using a backpack with dumbbells inside, and weighted pistol squats.
